This course prepares the student for employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a variety of settings including long-term care facility, acute care facility, doctor’s office, or patient home. The student will learn theory and apply the context to clinical procedures. This will enable the student to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to practice within their field. The skills taught are: communication, patient and family rights, documentation, infection control and injury prevention, different stages of life, personal care, emergency care, patient management, comfort measures, and end of life as well as diversity. Along with theory, the student must successfully perform or demonstrate skills contained in the scope of practice for the CNA and receive a satisfactory evaluation of progress. Upon completion of the Nursing Assistant course, the student is prepared to take the Certified Nursing Assistant Exam.
